It's a pear & a ....????

Corks & Canvas came to Auburn a few weeks ago. I hadn't done a painting since leaving Birmingham and my usual Sips 'n Strokes so I was ready for a challenge.

It's supposed to be 2 pears. One of mine sort of looks like a pear but the one on the right....it's up to viewer interpritation:)

Is it Friday yet?

Does it seem like it's been a long week to anyone else? Not too much exciting has gone on this week at the Hake's. This past weekend we stayed home (for me it was the first time since Mother's Day) and did whatever we wanted. Went to the new coffee shop that is right below our loft a few times and hung out at our favorite watering hole, Eighth & Rail. Philip got called in to do a surgery Saturday morning but he was only at the hospital a few hours so it didn't totally ruin his day! That afternoon we hit up a neighborhood pool for some vitamin D and a little nap! Sunday, church and lunch with my parents. I'm hoping for another "do whatever we want" weekend again this week.

Thinking about it, there were a lot of "repeats" this weekend:
Red Door June (coffee shop)- 2 times
Eighth & Rail- 2 times
Amsterdam's- 2 times
Oh well! We are notorious for finding places we like and going to them over & over.

I'm hoping to make it out to the loft this evening and seeing some tile but I'm not holding my breath. If there happens to be any reason to post pics, I'll do so tonight.

Keepin' the Roads Hot!

We've (mainly me) been keeping the roads hot lately! I haven't spent a weekend in Auburn since Mother's Day! Last weekend I had to go up to Birmingham for a baby shower on Saturday and a wedding shower on Sunday. It was fun though! I got to see a lot of my high school friends on Saturday at the baby shower and eat a Surin for dinner. It was so good! Sunday I helped host an "Around the Apartment" Shower for one of my old college/Bimirngham roomie, Julie. She's getting married in July and moving up to NYC! I'll be a little sad that she'll be so far away but hopefully we'll have a free place to stay if we can ever make a trip up there!

Since Philip had the whole week off the week before, last week was crazy busy for him! Long surgery days and even longer clinic days! I spent most of the evenings going up to the loft to monitor the progress (or lack thereof at the begining of the week). The good news is that they started making some at the end of the week and we now have dry wall up! The coffee shop that is below us, Red Door June, opened Wendesday. So now they can focus all of their attention to our house! We stopped by the coffee shop Wendesday night to see how their first day of business went and to get some coffee. I think that Philip is going to LOVE having some great coffee just a few steps away!

Friday we left for a nice, relaxing weekend at the beach. Sunday was Philip's birthday (the 6th anniversary of his 21st birthday!) so I took that as a great excuse to get some beach time in. We ate some wonderful seafood and laid on the beach all day Saturday & Sunday! On our way home last night, we stopped at my parents house and they cooked us a steak and had a little mini-cake for Philip. We finally got home about 10:30 and feel right in to bed, we were pooped! Charlie has been at the "spa" (that's what we call the vet) all weekend. He's getting a bath this morning and I'll pick him up at lunch. We've definitely missed having him around this weekend. I'm sure he will be mad at us for leaving him for a whole weekend! In the almost 2 years we've had him, it's only the 3rd time he's ever been boarded, the dog is very spoiled!!!

While going & doing on the weekends has been fun, I am very much looking forward to staying home this weekend!

Oh, I will post some pics of the beach & loft later. I don't have my camera with me!

Ahhh....now that's one helluva weekend!

Well, I had a wonderful weekend! Friday night Philip and I grabbed some Amsterdam & a bottle of wine and went to the balcony of our loft and had a little picnic. Then we went down to Eight & Rail (the bar a few doors down from our loft) and hung out with the "downtown crowd". There is a group of about 20 people that live in the downtown area that all hang out together, have supper clubs, etc. It was great getting to hang out with them!

Saturday I got up early and headed to Birmingham to have a spa weekend at Ross Bridge with my mom! It was so great! We laid out by the pool, had some tropical beverages, mom got a facial & I got a hot stone massage....ahhhh....the life! Saturday night we went to one of my favorite Birmingham restaurants, Ocean. It was as good as ever! Sunday morning we got up, had breakfast and did a little shopping. It was so much fun, I can't wait to do it again!

While I was getting pampered, Philip stayed in Auburn & his dad and brother came to visit. They had a great time doing "guy stuff". He really enjoyed getting to hang out with them, just guys!
Picnic on the Porch!
